History is made by PSM Makassar. ‘Juku Spell’ became the first Indonesian club to qualify for the AFC Cup final in the ASEAN zone.

PSM Makassar advanced to the final of the 2022 Asean AFC Cup Zone after defeating Kedah FC in the semifinals. In the match held at I Wayan Dipta Stadium, PSM Makassar won with a score of 2-1 via goals from Yakob Sayuri and Yuran Fernandes.

This achievement surpassed PSM’s record in 2019. At that time, PSM only reached the semifinals after being stopped by Vietnam’s representative, Becamex Binh Duong.

The AFC Cup format became per zone, starting in 2017. However, at that time there were no Indonesian representatives who appeared due to the absence of competition due to FIFA’s punishment.

In this year’s AFC Cup, PSM Makassar did look impressive. Yakob Sayuri and colleagues managed to win Group H after reaping four points from two matches.

PSM also showed slick achievements in domestic competitions. So far, PSM is unbeaten from three matches played. They are now sitting in third position with a pack of seven points.
