Israel's Destruction

LIPUTAN6ENGLISH – Israel has once again come under international scrutiny after demolishing a school built by the European Union in the village of Zamuta, Gaza Strip. This incident has sparked waves of protests from various quarters, including EU officials who condemn the action as a violation of international law.

According to the European Commissioner for Crisis Management, Janez Lenarčič, Israeli settlers have evicted a school in Zamuta, an occupied Palestinian territory, previously constructed with funds from the European Union.

Lenarčič expressed his condemnation through his Twitter account, emphasizing that the act of destruction is intolerable and constitutes a violation of International Humanitarian Law.

Vice President of the European Commission, Josep Borrell Fontelles, also criticized Israel, stating that Israeli settlers have violated international law by demolishing the school in Zamuta. He emphasized the need to halt the violence inflicted by Israeli settlers on the Palestinian community.

The European Union itself has taken a firm stance on this incident. Despite the school’s destruction, the EU continues to provide support and assistance to the residents of the Gaza Strip. So far, the EU has dispatched a total of 1,000 tons of aid to the region.

This assistance includes contributions from recent flights originating from EU member states such as Belgium, Ireland, Germany, Greece, Luxembourg, Portugal, Slovakia, and Spain.

The European Union has long played an active role in providing aid to Palestine, especially amid the ongoing conflict. This aid encompasses various forms, ranging from humanitarian assistance to support for the development of basic infrastructure, including schools.

The destruction of the school in Zamuta raises significant questions regarding international responsibility and the protection of the basic rights of civilians, particularly the right of children to receive an education.

Human rights activists are calling for greater proactivity from the international community in pressuring against human rights violations occurring in the Gaza Strip.

On the other hand, the Israeli government has yet to provide an official response to the allegations of international law violations. The reaction from Israel is now a focal point of global attention, with the international community awaiting clarification and a more detailed response regarding this incident.

In this context, the international community faces the challenge of finding a fair and sustainable solution to the conflict in the Middle East, where every action violating international law must be taken seriously. The Israel-Palestine issue has been a global concern for years, and genuine peace efforts remain the aspiration of many to create stability and justice in the region.
